HISTORY OF ZAMBIA BAPTIST ASSOCIATION
Zambia Baptist Association is part of the earliest Baptist work in Zambia which started at Kafulafuta Mission Station, Masaiti district in 1905. The focus of the work by then was to reach-out to the rural areas of the Copperbelt Province. However, the opening up of mining operations in the region necessitated urban out-reach which began as Free Church but the Ndola Free Church changed the name to the Baptist denomination in 1947. These out-reach activities were coordinated by the Baptist Union of Central Africa (BUCA) which was based in Zimbabwe (Southern Rhodesia).
Zambia Baptist Association was formed in 1971 by thirteen churches on the Copperbelt Province and Lusaka Baptist Church. Two factors facilitated the formation of the association, visa vie the political tension in Zimbabwe and the legislative requirement.
The first officers of the association were as follows:
Chairman: Graham Ingram
Vice Chairman: Omega Kasanshi.
Secretary: Godfrey Mulando.
Treasurer: Howard Worth.
